IBM and Ardence power diskless blades for reduced power

Here is a link to a press release that IBM just announced for W3i. It overviews the use of IBM blades and the use of diskless blade servers to help keep the cooling requirements down in the W3i data center. By removing hard drives and streaming OS images over the network, the process reduces the amount of spinning drives needed to power environments supporting over 15 million unique users a month.

The process is first of its kind release to data center space and is built on world leading hardware and software platforms from IBM and Ardence. (BTW- Chris from Citrix will be speaking at BladeSystems Insight about this technology and how well it teams with the IBM Bladecenter platform)

Here is the press release issued by IBM.
