BladeSystems Insight Review - Part 1 - Day one.

Today is the first full day of the BladeSystems Insight in Savannah GA.

I arrived on Monday 09 2007 after 13+ hours of travel due to flight delays and was stuck in Newark for 8+ hours. Thanks Continental! Looking at the bright side, it was a crystal clear night and the view from the plane of Newark overhead was amazing!

The morning was filled with meetings with several other end users that utilize blades within their infrastructure. It was great speaking with experts in the fieldand reviewing some of the common issues and concerns that we seem to all face. It was also great to hear the individual stories on the roads that we took to meet at a venue such as this.

Check-in started at 1:00PM ET and the Keynote was given at 6:30.

Making the Business Case for Blades and Virtualization
Jeffrey Birnbaum, Former Global Head of Enterprise Computing, Morgan Stanley

Joint Keynote Address from IBM and Intel

Doug Balog, Vice President and Business Line Executive, IBM BladeCenter

Lorie Wigle, Director of Server Technology and Initiatives Marketing, Intel Corporation

This was followed up by a reception at 7:00 and was a great opportunity to meet and talk.

Most conversations/topicsso far are revolving around the following:

  • Power
  • Cooling
  • 10G
  • Virtual Servers/Applications

Conference notes:
PPM Media is hosting the first show titled BladeSystems Insight. PPM aims to go international in 2007 and host the second US show in 2008.

Overall the show is small (150 people) and not very vender driven making it a very open to talk to other end users and find the proper solutions.

So far the show looks to be very well organized and should be a good trip.

More to come.
